Meet Owner Pamela Bennett
The universe worked its magic the day Pamela Bennett drove down Main Street in Kennebunk on her way home from her corporate job. She had been teetering on the cusp of a decision to start her own business, one that would showcase Maine artisans and bring support to the creative arts, and put beautiful objects into the hands and homes of shoppers looking for something special. The first time she crossed the threshold into the historic downtown shopfront, she knew her dream had Found a home. A feeling kindred to the inspiration behind her future business’s name – FOUND was coming into existence.
Pamela flexed her creative muscles in corporate retail for nearly 20 years, specializing in visual merchandising. Deciding she wanted more professional opportunities, she left retail and worked as an advertising professional for a Maine magazine where she helped Maine small businesses with their company advertising. Working with so many talented artists and craftspeople in this role, she realized what an amazing depth of talent we have in our state. Her desire to build her own creative business, while promoting Maine talent, started to come together. During this period, Pamela met a couple who had started their own Maine small business. She was inspired by their passion to pursue a vision for what quality-made furniture could be, and to make it available to consumers through a retail business even though that was not their background. Their attitude to just go for it encouraged Pamela to do the same! She decided it was time to start her own business.
Pamela initially looked for existing businesses that were for sale, but nothing really stuck. Driving home through Kennebunk that day, she spied the ‘For Lease’ sign in the window of a wonderful downtown building, and the lightbulb went off – why not open a new business of her own?! Although there were others interested in the space, she pursued it, and after interviewing with the owner’s representative and explaining her business vision, she was awarded the lease. The owner loved her vision for the space and how it would not only impact the community, but support Maine artisans. It was meant to be!
Pamela had an immediate vision of how the space would work for her shop. Open and airy with classic and strong architecture, she knew the historic character of the building would provide a perfect backdrop for her to feature her handmade, artist-created wares. Many of the artisans at FOUND are showcasing their work for the first time outside of an Etsy shop, which gives Pamela tremendous satisfaction to be promoting entrepreneurs just starting out.
A Kennebunk resident, Pamela lives intown with her two children. When she is not at FOUND to greet customers, she is enjoying warm weather at the beach or skiing Maine mountains in the snow. Her desire to be more involved in her community couldn’t be satisfied better than to have launched her business here. She loves meeting local neighbors throughout the year, along with learning about new people and places from the seasonal tourist traffic.
